Borrowed TI-84: Start, Practice and Return

This guide supports common borrower workflows for the TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus CE families. Screen colour, key appearance, menus and operating-system behaviour can differ. If the printed model name is different, use the lending desk's instructions.

2. Five-minute start

Complete these steps before attempting a longer course workflow.

Turn it onPress ON. If the screen remains blank, stop and ask lending staff rather than opening the device. Clear the current entryPress CLEAR. This clears the home-screen line; it does not erase the entire calculator. Enter a basic calculationTry 2+3ENTER Find the negative keyUse (-) for a negative number. The subtraction key performs an operation between values. Use parentheses deliberatelyGroup numerators, denominators and exponent expressions exactly as the problem requires. Check Degree or Radian modePress MODE, read the selected angle mode and change it only when your task requires it.

3. Fifteen-minute graphing orientation

Enter and display a function

Y=→X,T,θ,nx²→GRAPH

Press Y=.
Move to an empty line and enter x².
Press GRAPH.
If the graph is missing or looks unreasonable, try ZOOM, then 6:ZStandard.

Inspect the graph

Use TRACE and the arrow keys to inspect points.
Use 2nd, then GRAPH, to open the table on many TI-84 models.
Use WINDOW only when you understand the requested viewing range.

5. Practise before repeating the workflow

The browser calculator can help you rehearse a sequence away from the physical device. It is not guaranteed to reproduce every physical-model screen or function.

6. Before return

Do not perform a full memory reset unless the college requires it. A reset can remove programs, applications or settings the lending program expects to preserve.
